Michail Antonio - How good is he?
Ever since he scored two goals at Wembley in 2010 for Southampton, I have followed his career with great anticipation.

Now he is out injured, West Ham fans can't wait for this extraordinary goal machine to return and show the Premier League how it's done.

We don't even have an icon for this hero of ours.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
When he got brought down to the left of the WBA penalty box, it was because he was about to trick his way past three of their players, not particularly using either power or pace.

Technically ungifted players don't do that sort of thing.

(I know they were only WBA players, but he was about to wriggle free of three of them)

He is at the moment and a lot to do with the team work around him.

It's not just about one player!

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
I think a lot of people mention him not having a football brain largely based on that Palace game a few years back where he didn’t keep the ball in the corner, they broke and equalised.

His hold up and lay off to Lanzini last night almost brought a great assist we’re it not for a goal line clearance.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
Generally i would be Bolt but we are very reliant on him and couldn't afford to risk losing him given our lack of striking options.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
There's something we agree on Debs. England caps would be deserved but may just spoil him for us. Remember Dean Ashton anyone?

The last top class striker we had crocked training for England by Wright-Philips iirc?

I always want to see WHU players represented at International Level.

I'm sure many are of a differing opinion though, which is understandable.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
Given his hamstring issues would we really want him being picked for England and getting crocked. Last thing we'd need.

Yeah it was a shame he missed that boat as the one time he got called up he got injured after and never got a cap

Trundle, Ings isn't mate, he's 28.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
No chance. The two players over the age of 30 in the squad are pretty much permanent fixtures (Walker and Trippier).

Every other player Southgate has called up in the last year has been well under 30.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
Considering SARFGATE brought INGS into the squad on the back of his decent season last year, surely he should be in line for another call up considering he's goal scoring form has been excellent since we came back from lockdown last season?

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
Being unconventional is part of what makes him a nightmare to defend. I remember a few years back where he said something to the effect of even he didn't know what he would do next with the ball, and he's only become more savvy as a striker since then.

I was thinking yesterday watching him that it is unbelievable he is uncapped for England. There is no other striker in the country that gives you his combination of speed, power, and finishing. If nothing else, that should be a massive asset off the bench when chasing the game. I'm happy for him not to get the extra minutes, but he's certainly underrated.

He has improved so much since he has moved up front.

He was good before with his power but now he added so much more to his game.

Are we crediting Moyes for playing him up front?

Blimey.

Since he’s become a CF, he reminds me a bit of Drogba.

Big, black, powerful, good in the air.

“ He isn't technically gifted”

I see a player who can control a ball under pressure, is a good finisher, and who strikes the ball cleanly. I think his strength and hard work sometimes obscures his technique in acme observers’ eyes.

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
He's fucking effective if lacking finesse. Love his attitude and work rate. No defender would relish a 90 min contest with big Micky, he'll knock you over, beat you in the air, out sprint you, out work you. Shame about those hamstrings.

Huffers,

Sorry but that isn't clear. Paula Radcliffe had the running style of a hounded pigeon but she was fucking fast.

I think by 'footballer' its clear that people mean his technical ability. He isn't technically gifted.

At one point during the game he was knocking over West Brom defenders, like they were skittles

Re: Michail Antonio - How good is he?
His holdup play, surprised me a lot over the last few months.

Whilst he can often have the touch of a rapist, he's obviously worked hard on this as I counted at least 3 or 4 times the ball was just whacked up to him, in which he controlled the ball, held the defender off and laid the ball onto the midfieders.
